Housing

��911Legon offers diverse housing options to ensure you're comfortable in your home away from home. From homestays to shared apartments, we will strive for your accommodation preferences to be met. All housing has convenient access to plenty of shopping, supermarkets, restaurants, and public transportation. 

Standard Housing: Includes a single/double room at a homestay or a triple or quad-room at an off-campus hostel located within a 30-minute drive of ��911Legon. Estimate an additional 15-to-30-minute commute time when traffic is heavy or there is difficulty getting public transport.

Homestays: Homestays boast a kitchen, living room, and bathroom shared with a host family or bathroom ensuite rooms.
Off-campus Hostel: The off-campus hostel offers triple or quad-occupancy en-suite rooms, with shared common spaces such as the fitted kitchen and 2 lounge areas.

Select Plus Housing: Includes a single-occupancy air-conditioned room in apartment-style housing off-campus, located within 20 minutes of ��911Legon. Estimate an additional 15-to-30-minute commute time when traffic is heavy or there is difficulty getting public transport. Select Plus housing requires an additional fee.

A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.

Meals

Homestay: Hosts provide breakfast and dinner during the week, and students get lunch on their own. Hosts provide all three meals on weekends.
Hostels/Apartment-style Housing: Meals are not included. Students prepare meals (facilities are limited) or eat on or off campus from many food places available.

��911Legon: Study on the University of Ghana’s campus, located in the quiet suburbs of Accra. ��911Legon features three main classrooms, a general space that can also serve as a large classroom, a modest library, a lounge area for relaxation, and a vast outdoor space (with a mini football field and a basketball court).

The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA): GIMPA was founded in 1961 through a partnership between the Ghanaian government and the United Nations. It began as the Institute of Public Administration to help improve Ghana’s public service. Today, GIMPA offers programs in business, leadership, public administration, technology, and social sciences. Courses are designed to be engaging and practical, with a strong focus on real-world application of knowledge. GIMPA is known as one of Ghana’s top schools for management and leadership training. The campus is just five minutes by public transport from ��911Legon.

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by ��911in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the ��911academic calendar.

On-Program Requirements

Academic Culture

��911courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. The class environment typically features a combination of traditional lecture and discussion with co-curricular excursions and activities. Heavy emphasis is placed on student engagement. Similar to classes at U.S. institutions, students should expect to spend an average of two hours of preparation and study for each hour in ��911classes.

��911courses typically run from Monday through Thursday, providing students with a concentrated schedule that allows for intensive study and exploration. This condensed format encourages students to fully engage with the material and make the most of their time. Attendance is mandatory for ��911courses.

GIMPA’s academic scene is designed to be engaging and practical, focusing on real-world application of knowledge. They are in-person classes that typically involve case studies, problem-solving, and incorporating industry insights from visiting experts. Classes may take a collaborative learning approach, particularly in business-related fields.

ASU Courses: Most ASU online courses are asynchronous. You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. You’ll receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online. 

Class Format

��911classes are for ��911students only. Classes are small, typically with up to 15 students per class, and emphasize communication and work in small groups. Instruction is supported and augmented online with our learning management system, Canvas. 

GIMPA classes typically meet once a week for two to three hours. Class sizes average 30 to 40 students. Courses are taught in English, and likely include group projects and presentations.

ASU online courses meet in “sessions” that are 7.5-weeks long in the semester, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other ��911courses begin or end. 

Grading

The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. In ��911courses, students are graded on the basis of attendance, class engagement, homework, project work, presentations, and mid-term and final examinations. Learning outcomes assessment is continuous through personal reflections, evaluation feedback, self-assessment, and requirements as set out in course syllabi. 

GIMPA’s courses will typically be graded based on a final exam score, a mid-term exam score, and in-class presentations. ��911reports final grades for host institution courses using recommended U.S. letter grade equivalencies, following a predetermined grade conversion scale.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person. “Pass/fail” or “Audit” is not allowed for ��911students.

Individual courses may have additional prerequisites; for ��911courses, these are listed in the syllabi below. Students are responsible for having their own course approval conversations with their advisors. Your study abroad advisor and ��911staff can help you understand your course options if you don't see a recommendation that fits your course needs.
